Fallstudien zur Eventualität depicts various simulations: High-G centrifuges; a ship’s bridge; airport towers operated by institutions such as the Deutsche Bahn, the German Aerospace Center, or the German air traffic control. Concerned with natural survival instincts, Heinke presents synthetic spaces in which humans virtually reproduce reality to anticipate potentially fatal scenarios. Though realistic and quasi-scientific in their depiction, the photographs present subjects located midway between reality and the virtual. Generally seen as removed from everyday life, the virtual is here presented as a decisive tool for existence.
